Dogfish Head Piercing Pils

I’ve had my eye on DogfishHead Piercing Pils for a while now and I finally got around to picking it up.  When I opened the bottle I was able to smell Pear Tea and the hops that made for a nice aroma. The first taste of the beer was stronger than I expected from a pilsner. The second taste was very nice with a flurry of flavors from sweet pear to citrus to spicy hops making for a blend of flavors that hit every spot of the palate. Like most Pilsners it has a nice crisp, clean finish. I find myself gulping this sipper, which can cause problems with the six percent alcohol content. It’s one of the most complex pilsners that I’ve had in a while and shows the craftsmanship that Dogfish Head Brewery is known for.

As I continue to drink the beer it seems like every taste introduces a new element of flavor that I didn’t realize the previous drink. Even with all these strong flavors there is no one dominate flavor it’s that well balanced. Every flavor is there to compliment another flavor and never tastes muddled. You can pick out the distinct flavor notes throughout. I find this to be a nice twist on the classic pilsner and better than I expected since I’m not a huge pear or tea fan, but it works in this case.

I would give this beer a solid 7.75 out of ten as it hits the spot in many ways. I really enjoyed the multitude of different flavors that can be enjoyed from start to finish. I finished the first bottle much faster than I planned because it was so easy and enjoyable to drink. This will be on my list of beers to enjoy again in the future. Until next time Love What You Drink,
